Julian Harris Network
Long-standing small whole-of-market network, founder-owned.
Operating since 1992, Julian Harris Adviser Networks comprises Julian Harris Financial Consultants and Julian Harris Mortgages. Privately owned and run, it is deliberately small-scale, focused on whole-of-market authorisation, compliance, training and systems support for ARs. Famously straightforward and adviser-friendly economics — no PE, no shareholder pressure.
In short
One of the UK's longest-established independent networks. Founder-led, low overhead, suits one-person and small ARs wanting light-touch oversight.
01 · Charging Model
What it costs the client — and you.
Total client cost is what regulators care about — and what clients shop on. We unpick it across advice, platform and product.
Our take: Network levy is a flat monthly fee plus a low % of gross — one of the most adviser-friendly structures in the market.
02 · Investment Proposition
Where client money goes
Whole-of-market — no in-house funds or MPS forced on ARs.
- True open architecture
- No proprietary investment proposition
- ARs choose their own platform & DFM relationships
03 · Tech Stack
What you'll work with daily
- Intelliflo (Adviser Office)
- Various platforms
- FE Analytics
- Google Workspace
Our take: Modest, functional tech. Not the reason you join Julian Harris — but it doesn't get in your way.
Strengths
Where it shines
- Sector-leading payout economics
- True whole-of-market freedom
- Stable, founder-owned — no PE timeline
- Low-friction joining process
- Mortgage as well as investment authorisation
Watch-outs
Where it stings
- Limited central marketing & lead generation
- Smaller compliance team — less hand-holding
- Founder succession risk
- Tech is basic vs PE-backed peers
- Brand carries little weight with HNW clients
04 · Who owns it
Ownership
No PE involvement, no listing. Succession is the key strategic question for prospective joiners.
Currently: Privately owned by founder Julian Harris
05 · Day-to-day
Culture
Family-business feel. Direct lines to senior decision-makers. No corporate politics.
06 · When you leave
Exit options
ARs are free to move with reasonable notice. No proprietary IP locking clients in. Network can introduce buyers but doesn't operate a captive acquisition vehicle.
07 · Payout Economics
Often >90% of gross to the AR
Mix of flat monthly fee and small % override. Net payout is amongst the highest in the UK network market — at the cost of less central marketing & lead support.
08 · Real Voices
What advisers and clients actually say
A balanced selection of public reviews from Trustpilot, Glassdoor, the FT and trade press — both glowing and damning. We don't cherry-pick.
"If you want to keep what you earn and don't need a flashy network, Julian Harris is hard to beat on economics."
"Old-school but works. Don't expect cutting-edge tech or marketing — expect to be left alone to run your business."
"Independent advice without the corporate sales feel. Adviser is the same person we've worked with for years."
Fortis Connect Verdict
Best for
Established self-employed IFAs and small AR principals who want maximum payout and minimum interference.
Watch out for
Founder succession; lighter compliance support means you carry more responsibility yourself.
